Fairground Lofts in Old Woodbridge Village isn’t afraid to blend the old with the contemporary. The new development in Vaughan is honouring its roots by building a modern community around two restored heritage homes.
This was no easy task. To preserve the homes — constructed in 1885 — Wycliffe Homes uprooted the dwellings from their original location, stripped the original flooring and included an addition for extra living space. The original exterior has remained perfectly intact.
“There aren’t a lot of developers that would take on moving a heritage house on steel beams and a railway track,” says Jared Bensky, the VP of Development for Wycliffe Homes. “It takes us longer to build out a community, but people pay for our value.”
But buyers don’t have to wait too long. Wycliffe began servicing the homes in March, and they expect people to settle in for spring 2014. The project is slated for completion in the last quarter of the same year.
We paid the construction site a visit this week to check out the progress. With 80 per cent of the homes already sold, it’s clear we’re not the only ones who’ve noted its value.
If you decide to move in, expect cutting-edge kitchen countertops, European-style cabinets and of course, clean brick exteriors.
“We’re respecting the heritage conservation district of Old Woodbridge Village and the city of Vaughan, but at the same time, the style and the flavour of this project is industrial chic,” says Bensky. “They’re truly urban town lofts.”
Once complete, Fairground Lofts will feature 65 stacked townhomes. The heritage-inspired units range in size from 700 to 1,000 square feet, and prices start in the upper $200,000’s to $449,900.
